Tom Southwell, production designer on The Salton Sea, Taking Lives, Two For The Money, Disturbia and other high profile feature films has worked in cinema since graduating from Pratt Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1972.
Having worked in virtually every position in the cinema art department, he now instructs students in figure drawing, perspective drawing, set sketches, concept sketches, graphic design, art direction, and production design. All jobs he has performed on major feature productions such as Blade Runner, The Goonies, City Slickers, I Am Number Four, Arachnophobia, X-Men, Mission Impossible, and The Godfather Part II, to name a few of the over 150 film projects on his resume.
Mr Southwell has lectured on these topics at UCLA, ART CENTER College of Design, Cal State Fullerton, and The Studio School, where he currently holds a teaching position instructing students in production design.
Tom Southwell has been a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 1980. Many of the films he has worked on have received Oscars.
