Macklen studied acting at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and Playwrights Horizons Theatre School before graduating from the University of Vermont in 2002. Upon moving to Los Angeles, he broadened his performance education at The Groundlings, where he first fell in love with improvisation. He continued his improv training by completing coursework at the Upright Citizens Brigade and iO West (where he currently manages a student performance program and does student coaching of his own). He plays on the iO team Pockets, the UCB team Steelo, and the prolific indie teams Bowie and Honeymoon. He is fortunate to have learned from such luminaries as Guy Stevenson, Billy Merritt, Craig Cackowski, and Jason Pardo (to name but a few).
Macklen is also an actor, having landed recurring roles in every soap opera you can think of, and also some non-recurring roles in every other show you can't think of. However, the longer he works in improv, the more he begins to resent the concept of having to memorize a script. Ugh, I have to say all those words? And in that order?
