Leslie has an unusually diverse performing career – spanning classical and contemporary dance companies to Broadway musicals, acting in straight plays, films and TV, singing in original shows and cabarets, creating choreography for musicals and writing original librettos for short operas. As a teacher, she uses these different techniques and ways of understanding story-telling to illuminate the material at hand.
This Spring 2015, Leslie danced in LA Opera’s production of GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES while alternating performances of a lead role in an intimate musical, INSIDE OUT. Next up she understudied theatre icon, Laurie Metcalf, in the west coast premiere of TREVOR, a dark and comic play while choreographing SIDE SHOW for 3D Theatricals. Meanwhile, Leslie has written the libretto for the new piece LA Opera will be premiering in August 2015 - THEN I STOOD UP; The Cycle – an opera highlighting the stories of young people’s courageous acts in the face of Injustice.
Other recent theatre work in LA includes playing the Stepmother in INTO THE WOODS and Sally Slaton in PARADE with 3D Theatricals, Faye in CHAPTER TWO at Laguna Playhouse, Veronica in GOD OF CARNAGE with ICT and June in CHICAGO at the Hollywood Bowl. On Broadway, Leslie originated the role of Anne in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES and appeared in VICTOR/VICTORIA with Julie Andrews. She’s a proud alumna of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Dayton Ballet, the Shakespeare LAB at The Public Theatre NYC, and currently writes librettos for LA Opera’s excellent Education Dept.
Her on-camera work includes leading roles in Feature films THE BOARDER and THRESHOLD (2015), several festival-winning short films and TV guest appearances on True Blood, Criminal Minds, Private Practice, The Fosters, Revenge, a recurring role on the Young & the Restless.
