Born and raised in New York City, Joe's passion for performance began as early as he can remember. Cultivated by the underground urban dance scene as a freestyler and rich introduction to Broadway theater thanks to his older sister, his influence spans the world of dance and the performing arts. Joe continued his passion for dance in Boston, pushing the envelope in traditional fraternity stepping and competition hip hop, all while studying mechanical engineering at MIT. Now in Los Angeles, after receiving his masters degree in architecture at SCI-Arc, Joe works as a professional dancer, choreographer, instructor, and creative director. EXPERIENCE Joe Brown has assisted some of the industry's top choreographers, including the award-winning Chuck Maldonado (Step Up, Stomp the Yard, ABDC), on numerous shows and commercial projects. Under the guidance of such trailblazers, Joe has established himself as an all-styles dancer and choreographer in hip hop, dancehall, house, afro, waacking, jazz funk and more! Not limited to these styles, he is also the pioneer of the nation's first and only Step/Stroll class at the renowned Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio. Step/Stroll and his associated professional dance company Stroll Groove fuses the intense rhythms of traditional stepping with the ferocious grooves of other cultural styles. Joe Brown's professional credits include America's Got Talent, Laura Mvula, Dawn Richard (of MTV's Danity Kane), French Montana, Nicki Minaj, Daddy Yankee and more! At the community level, he teaches non-profit fundraiser workshops and helps teach inner-city youth with the performance group Step Masters Step x Step (Arsenio Hall Show, BET Experience).
